Sympathy from the Devil
February 3, 2009
Okay, so the IRS isn’t the devil, but for taxpayers it can be devilishly difficult to figure out your taxes, not to mention paying them, when economic misfortune strikes.
So the IRS has put together a sympathetic Q&A for the economic downturn. Under “Job Related,” you’ll find answers to questions like: What if I lose my job? What if I collect unemployment? and What if I close my business?
Under “Income Related,” there’s What if I sell my home at a loss? What if I lose my home through foreclosure? among other cheerful ditties.
And the third category is “Tax Related.” What if I didn’t receive my economic stimulus check? (Remember the Bush stimulus a year ago?) What if there’s a federal tax lien on my house? and that all-time favorite, What if I can’t pay my taxes?
Here’s the full collection of Q&As at the IRS web site.
