Effective Dates of Health Care Bill Tax Provisions March 22, 2010 TF Staff TF Staff We've released a Fiscal Fact showing a timeline of the tax provisions included in the health care bill that passed the House on Sunday evening (Senate bill plus reconciliation bill). While the tax on high-valued health insurance plans (i.e., the "Cadillac tax") would not go into effect until 2018, the increased Medicare tax on high-income taxpayers would go into effect in 2013. Most of the provisions relating to health insurance coverage, such as penalties for employers not offering and individuals not purchasing health insurance, would go into effect in 2014.
