Analyzing Washington State’s Tax Climate (Video)

September 25, 2017

Last week, Tax Foundation’s Senior Analyst Jared Walczak delivered remarks on a panel on Washington state’s business tax climate at the Association of Washington Business’s Policy Summit. Joining him was Spokane Mayor David Condon, Scott Edwards, an attorney representing plaintiffs in their challenge to Seattle’s new municipal income tax, and Richard Davis, an Association of Washington Business Board Member.

The discussion covered the almost certainly illegal Seattle income tax, the recent Seattle soda tax enactment, the state’s infamous B&O tax, and the Spokane railroad tax. Washington has several attractive parts of its tax code, but there are some issues with arcane tax policies, and new local levies that threaten the state’s future business climate stability.
