About the Role

The Tax Foundation’s Senior Government Relations Associate executes our outreach strategy to educate Congress and the federal government on the principles of sound tax policy and assists with event management, research development, and day-to-day responsibilities related to government relations operations. This position reports to the Director of Government Relations.

Responsibilities

  • Corresponds and meets regularly with all congressional staff responsible for tax policy, including, but not limited to, those involved with the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee
  • Maintains up-to-date records of all interactions and oversees appropriate outreach
  • Develops policy one-pagers and research documents on salient topics in federal tax policy
  • Coordinates with the Director of Government Relations to build an annual events and educational agenda
  • Assists the Events Manager in executing events and educational agenda
  • Regularly meets and corresponds with the Tax Foundation’s policy teams to ensure key messages are delivered on time
  • Draft regular email updates with Tax Foundation research and relevant events
  • Assists with planning and executing Tax Prom, which 200+ members of Congress and congressional staff attend
  • Expands the Tax Foundation’s network by meeting with congressional staffers, think tank staff, and other tax experts
  • Coordinates and meets with allied organizations to pursue sound tax policy and identify new opportunities for collaboration
  • Assists Tax Foundation experts with congressional testimonies, meetings, or events
  • Coordinates internal planning calls with government relations and policy teams to assist with the development of outreach and policy strategies

Required Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience in Congress, agency, trade association, business, or think tank working on tax, economic, budget, or similar policy areas
  • Proven ability to execute multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on assignments independently
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, public policy, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong ability to communicate, written and spoken, to a range of audiences
  • An interest in public policy and a belief in the Tax Foundation’s mission
  • Ability to think independently and adapt to the dynamic needs of a fast-paced professional environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in Congress, executive branch, trade association, business, or think tank working on tax, economic, budget, or similar policy areas
  • Knowledge of tax and economic federal policymaking
  • Familiarity with the federal tax community in Washington, DC
  • Knowledge of HubSpot and Less Annoying CRM

Location and Hours

This is a full-time, exempt position with a standard work schedule of Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The position is based in-office in Washington, DC. Tax Foundation staff are able to work from home on Mondays and Fridays and upon approval from their manager. Occasional local travel and extended hours will be required for certain events.

Compensation

The projected salary range for this role is $60,000-$80,000, contingent upon the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.
