Taxpayers Lose a Friend

1 min readBy: Scott Hodge

The taxpayer movement lost a dear friend and staunch champion today with the sudden passing of John Berthoud, President of the National Taxpayer’s Union (NTU). On behalf of all of us at the TaxA tax is a mandatory payment or charge collected by local, state, and national governments from individuals or businesses to cover the costs of general government services, goods, and activities. Foundation, I want to extend our sincerest thoughts and prayers to John’s family and NTU colleagues. John’s innate goodness earned him the deepest loyalty of his staff. His conviction and determination to defend American taxpayers earned him the admiration of thousands of NTU supporters. For those of us who were just lucky enough to call him a friend, John was simply genuine, unpretentious, thoughtful and caring.

I hope that all of us who fight daily for sound tax policy will rally to help NTU’s staff, board, and supporters in any way we can during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Scott Hodge
