Keith Hall Named CBO Director

1 min readBy: Alan Cole

Senate Budget Committee Chairman Mike Enzi (R-WY) and House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-GA) jointly named Dr. Keith Hall the new Director of the Congressional Budget Office, succeeding the outgoing director, Dr. Douglas Elmendorf.

Dr. Hall has served the federal government in a number of important posts including Chief Economist for the White House Council of Economic Advisors, Chief Economist for the Department of Commerce, and Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

One of his primary areas of research is labor markets, and he’s interested in the task of getting people back to work. While the economy is now steadily improving, the labor force participation rate remains unfortunately low.

Here is an example of Dr. Hall testifying on the subject before the Senate last year.

Hall’s resume is generally in line with those of past CBO Directors, and his areas of economic interest are generally well matched to the specific challenges faced by lawmakers today.
