About the Role
The Tax Foundation is seeking a hard-working, detail-oriented Accountant who will be responsible for managing the general ledger and daily accounting functions. The position will report to the Operations & HR Administrator.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in audit and tax preparation
- Oversee all recurring accounting functions, including reconciliation processes and coding allocations for expenses and revenue
- Manage the organization’s relationship with third-party accounting firm and oversee an independent contractor from the firm
- Provide oversight and guidance on GAAP
- Assist the Development team in accurately tracking and reporting on restricted funds
- Manage employee reimbursement processing
- Serve as lead contact for accounts payable and invoice submissions
- Prepare regular financial reports for the leadership team and Board of Directors
- Maintain regular oversight of budget v actual alignment of the annual budget
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in a prior accounting role
- Experience in the accounting functions of a nonprofit
- Strong displayed knowledge of GAAP
- Understanding of Sage Intacct and Bill.com software utilities is a plus
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- CPA preferred but not required
- Ability to travel up to 10%
Location and Hours
This is a full-time, exempt position with a standard work schedule of Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. While we prefer candidates based near Washington, DC, this role can be performed remotely from anywhere in the United States. Some travel and extended hours will be required for key events, including board meetings, annual audits, our August all-staff retreat, and the November annual gala.
Compensation
The projected salary range for this role is $60,000-$75,000, contingent upon the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.
