Tax Prom 2020: A Tribute to Congressional Staff

1 min read

Every year, for over 80 years, the TaxA tax is a mandatory payment or charge collected by local, state, and national governments from individuals or businesses to cover the costs of general government services, goods, and activities. Foundation has hosted its end-of-year gala, Tax Prom, to bring together the tax community in a spirit of bipartisanship and to celebrate the hard work of the year.

In 2020, like so many other things, Tax Prom was a little different. Instead of gathering in person, we brought the celebration online and dedicated the evening to a very special group of people—Congressional Staff, the unsung heroes in Congress.

After all, these people are the glue that holds Congress together, who draft the bills, sweat the details, and work late into the night.

We spoke with dozens of congressional staffers and leaders in the tax community, past and present, Democrat and Republican, to hear what it’s like working on Capitol Hill every day, on policies that impact millions.

Below, you can watch a recording of the full Tax Prom 2020 tribute, hosted by Tax Foundation President Scott Hodge and Russ Sullivan, chair of the National Tax Policy Group at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLC and Capitol Hill veteran in his own right.

As with any production, there was a lot of footage from Tax Prom 2020 that ended up on the cutting room floor—about 8 hours, to be exact. Below, we’ve made all our interviews available, unabridged, for your enjoyment.

Trust us when we say that every single discussion was fascinating—a tribute to the diverse, passionate, and always-entertaining all-stars of the tax community.
