Remember this Barack Obama Campaign Ad Against McCain’s Health Care Plan?
March 29, 2010
So what does the health care bill signed into law by President Obama last week do?
(1) It would tax health benefits for the first time ever.
(2) It sends your health premium tax credit directly to the insurance company. (JCT explanation: "Based on the information provided to the exchange, the individual receives a premium assistance credit based on income, and the Treasury pays the premium assistance credit amount directly to the insurance plan in which the individual is enrolled.")
Regarding the first point, it's obvious that candidate Obama merely used Sen. McCain's "taxing health benefits" as a campaign scare tactic.
Regarding the second point, this was just Obama appealing to the public's ignorance of economic incidence versus legal incidence, exactly like the Republicans did three weeks ago in this press release on the very same issue.
Welcome to Washington…where the ends always justify the means.
