The Tax Foundation Expands Its Tax and Economic Modeling Program October 21, 2014 The Tax Foundation Expands Its Tax and Economic Modeling Program Highly-Qualified Economists Join the Taxes and Growth Modeling Team Washington, DC (Oct 21, 2014)–The Tax Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of economists Gavin Ekins, PhD, and Huaqun Li, PhD, to our Taxes and Growth modeling team. Gavin Ekins comes to the Tax Foundation after serving as visiting professor at Emory University and previously working with Nobel laureate Vernon Smith. Huaqun Li comes to the Tax Foundation from Regional Economics Models, Inc. (REMI), one of the world’s leading policy analysis organization, where she developed regional economic forecast models. “We’re excited to add two highly qualified economists to our macroeconomic modeling project,” Tax Foundation President Scott Hodge said. “The knowledge and expertise that Gavin and Huaqun bring to our team will help expand and improve the abilities of the model and the effect it has on public policy debates.” Together Gavin and Huaqun will drive the development of the Tax Foundation’s Taxes and Growth Model. In the coming months, the Tax Foundation plans to expand the Taxes and Growth Model—which evaluates the effects of federal tax policy on jobs, wages, and the overall economy—to also evaluate the economic effects of federal spending policies. Dr. W. Gavin Ekins is a Research Economist at the Tax Foundation. Previously, he worked as a researcher and visiting professor at Emory University and worked for the Center for Neuropolicy at Emory University and the Center for the Study of Neuroeconomics at George Mason University. At the Tax Foundation, Gavin focuses on the development of the Taxes and Growth Model, including the expansion of the model to include the economic effects of federal spending policy and the international flows of capital. He holds a PhD in economics from George Mason University and a master's degree in systems engineering and bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the University of Arizona. Dr. Huaqun Li is an Economist at the Tax Foundation. Before joining the Tax Foundation, she was a research economist at Regional Economics Models, Inc. in Amherst, MA, where she worked on model building, empirical analysis, and new product development on economic and demographic forecast models. At the Tax Foundation, she focuses on the development and maintenance of the Taxes and Growth Model, which models the budgetary and economic effects of changes to federal tax policy. Huaqun received her PhD in public policy analysis and master’s degree in statistics from George Mason University.
