President’s and Republicans’ Weekly Address

April 12, 2010

Both the President’s Weekly Address and the Republicans’ Weekly Address unsurprisingly discussed taxes this week. President Obama discussed the role tax cuts played as part of the stimulus package. He highlighted that it included nearly $160 billion in tax cuts for individuals and businesses. Senator Kyl talked about the possible expiration of the Bush tax cuts as a cause for concern.

Both President Obama and Senator Kyl might be correct to cite that each of these policies has lowered the current tax obligation of Americans. However, both highlight these polices as plans for economic growth. Given that both of these tax cuts are set to expire and leaving more debt to be financed, there is some concern about their total effect.
