Outstanding Achievement in State Tax Reform Award: 2017 Nominations

March 12, 2018

Each year, the Tax Foundation honors state legislators, executives, and other individuals with its Outstanding Achievement in State Tax Reform award.

As the name suggests, the honoree’s accomplishments must be (1) outstanding, (2) an achievement (not merely a proposal) during 2017, and (3) advance a tax system to make it more simple, more neutral, more transparent, more stable, and more pro-growth.

Working for better tax policy is not easy, and although a small glass award hardly compares to the efforts the recipients put into what they helped achieve, we believe that it’s important to do something to recognize their impressive achievements for the taxpayers of their states.

Past recipients in the last three years include four governors, legislators from 12 states, the Presidents of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council and the Nevada Taxpayers Association, vigilant state tax officials in Utah who undercovered nationwide identity theft through tax returns, and revenue directors in Illinois and Iowa. See the full list here.

We thank you for your nominations, which will be accepted until 5:00 PM Eastern Time, Thursday, March 29, 2018.
