Bev Perdue (D) has launched a “Balance the Budget Challenge” as part of her website. Perdue explains that current proposed spending exceeds expected revenues by $2.4 billion, and invites visitors to design a proposal from a menu of options in education, social services, public safety, general government, economic development, and taxes. Unlike other budget balance challenge websites that are designed to push tax increases as the only option, such as the otherwise well done Next Ten website for California, Perdue’s is quite balanced in laying out a variety of possibilities.
