Manager of Corporate Relations

Role Overview

We are seeking a hard-working, detail-oriented individual to serve as Manager of Corporate Relations. We are looking for a self-starter and project manager who believes strongly in the Tax Foundation mission and has the drive, attention to detail, and skill set to help in administrative and logistics support along with donor stewardship of a dynamic and fast-paced Corporate Development team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing many of the day-to-day administrative and support tasks of the Corporate Relations team, along with a corporate donor portfolio of 20-30 companies. The ideal candidate will thrive in and enjoy an environment where no two days are alike. If you are an individual who can manage prioritizing and completing multiple competing tasks, this is the job for you. There is expansive growth opportunity in this role; the plan is for this person to expand the role and take ownership of a growing list of opportunities in a rapidly growing development department.

This role will be conducted from Tax Foundation headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Duties & Responsibilities

Donor-facing Communications and Relations

  • Handle a corporate donor portfolio of 20-30 companies

  • Meet regularly with existing corporate donors to maintain support and find additional funding

  • Help lead prospect calls/meetings to discuss their company’s tax policy priorities and communicate the Tax Foundation’s engagement agenda and how we work with the corporate community

  • Develop corporate proposals for prospects & donors

  • Collaborate with the Director of Corporate Relations and the state, federal, and global policy teams to develop programs & strategies to recruit and retain donors

  • Serve as a point of contact for the Corporate Relations team for all donor requests including:

    • Draft weekly gift receipts, see that thank-you notes are written and emailed

    • Donor request fulfillment ranging from requests for copies of publications to answering questions about the invoicing process

    • Write and send HubSpot email communications to the corporate community

Salesforce

  • Input corporate donor interactions in the appropriate Salesforce corporate donor accounts and regularly update these accounts with new contact information

Financing

  • Ensure invoices are prepared and submitted in a timely fashion and sent to corporate donors & sponsors of Tax Prom, our annual end-of-year gala that brings together the tax community
  • Work with donors to onboard Tax Foundation as a vendor in their accounts payable portals
  • Fulfill accounting requests for weekly account reconciliations and annual audit needs

Research

  • Lead the corporate relations team with prospecting research, ensuring that our corporate prospecting lists are kept up-to-date on an annual basis

Events

  • Oversee logistics for quarterly Corporate Advisory Panel Calls and Working Group Calls
    • Draft invite language for each event to be sent to corporate donors
    • Collect RSVPs from corporate donors for each event
  • Tax Prom
    • Coordinate seating, guest requests, and logistics for all corporate sponsors and guests
    • Outreach to corporate prospects and lead meetings/phone calls with these prospects to discuss the value of their organization sponsoring a table or purchasing tickets
    • Work with in-kind sponsors to ensure in-kind gifts are delivered on time
  • Biannual Global Tax Policy Reform Retreat
    • Work with the Director of Corporate Relations and the Global Tax Policy team to draft the agenda for each retreat

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and/or government relations (internships may be considered experience)
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and good judgment
  • Solution-oriented with the ability to prioritize and successfully manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Able to work independently on projects, from conception to completion; work under pressure; handle confidential matters with discretion; and interface well with all departments of the organization and represent Tax Foundation in a highly professional manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Hubspot
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 10-15% of the time on an annual basis
