Celebrating Our 76th Birthday
December 5, 2013
Today the Tax Foundation turns 76 years old!
It was on this day in 1937 that small group of business executives gathered in New York City to discuss the need to effectively monitor fiscal activities at all levels of government and convey that information to the general public. In the heart of the Great Depression, over the years prior, federal spending had climbed 170 percent and federal tax collections 198 percent. Without accurate information, policymakers and citizens were operating in the dark.
Those forward-thinking individuals decided to launch an organization which, through research and analysis, would inform and educate Americans using objective, reliable data on government finance. That remains our mission to this day.
For the past 76 years we have worked towards better tax policy, guided by the principles of sound tax policy – neutrality, simplicity, transparency, and stability – and we plan to continue to do so for the next 76 years and beyond.
Help us celebrate our birthday by donating today! If you donate $76 today ($1 for every year we've worked for better tax policy), we'll make sure you're among the first to get our new Facts & Figures booklet when it comes out early next year, at no additional cost.
We'd also appreciate sending us a quick e-mail with an example of how Tax Foundation research has helped you, your think tank, your association, or your business. We need these stories to grow our funding support to have an even greater impact. And if you know someone itching to invest in big policy impacts, please don’t keep it to yourself!
Finally, thank you for all your help and support every year. Our successes are because of each of you.
Have a happy holiday season, and happy birthday to us!
