Alicia Hansen is the staff writer, webmaster, and copy editor at the Tax Foundation.  She also oversees and contributes to the Foundation's popular Tax Policy Blog. She has written two extensive studies of the tax policy implications of state-run lotteries, and her work has appeared in major newspapers and journals, including the Charlotte Observer, Crain's Chicago Business, the Providence Journal, and State Tax Notes. She has conducted numerous radio interviews on state-run lotteries and has testified before the Vermont legislature.

Previously, Ms. Hansen was enrolled in a doctoral program in philosophy at the University of Maryland, worked at the National Association for the Education of Young Children, performed volunteer work on a congressional re-election campaign in her home state of Connecticut, and worked as a self-employed tutor of math, reading, and French. She graduated summa cum laude from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., with a bachelor's degree in philosophy.
