Shreveport Times Editorial Board Cites Tax Foundation Property Tax Data in Budget Recommendations to Lawmakers

A 2007 study by The Tax Foundation shows Louisiana, at 0.14 percent of median home values (median real estate taxes divided by median home value), with the lowest homeowner property tax rate in the nation, less than half of second-lowest Alabama's 0.30 percent rate. In median real estate taxes paid, Louisianans paid $183 in property taxes, Alabama residents $352, Arkansans (ranked 47) $498 and Mississippians (ranked 48th) $459. The highest? New Jersey homeowners paid $6,082.
